Definition of a pilot project in Klima 2050
A pilot in the research centre Klima 2050 may comprise a complete or delimited section of a building or facility, or may be linked to a process or framework. Pilots must be linked to the development of new systems or processes. The objective is that a pilot shall act as a model and example of how we can demonstrate mitigation of risk to society by means of measures designed to adapt to the impact of climate change.
Pilots are projects that are designed and administered by one or more of the Parties at the Centre. Our experience demonstrates that pilots promote productive interaction between the partners involved. Pilots are the Centre's main arena for product development and the testing of research results. They are also regarded as an effective means of disseminating know-how generated at the Centre. Such projects also represent excellent opportunities to showcase the Consortium.
It is often easier to demonstrate the innovation potential linked to a given system, process, etc. by employing a pilot rather than by other forms of research. In general terms, user partners find pilots more focused and thus more attractive. However, if the criteria and guidelines defined for a pilot are too diffuse, misunderstandings and a poor working atmosphere may result. At the other extreme, if guidelines are too rigid, innovative thoughts can be strangled by red tape.
Klima 2050 intends to utilise pilots as key Consortium development arenas.
