An international outreach – an inspiring seminar with experts from abroad

Inspiration from the Centre Midway Evaluation

This year the Research Council of Norway has implemented a Midway Evaluation of the third generation of Centres for Research-based Innovation, Klima 2050 included.

About Internationalisation the committee said; All in all, the amount and quality of international activity is satisfactory but there is scope for more and this could be important for the sustainability of the Centre, especially after the SFI funding period. They further recommended: That the Centre incentivises both outgoing and incoming international exchanges for researchers at all levels.

International guests

As an immediate follow up, the Centre invited four international experts within the fields of the Centre to a First international seminar and publication preparation in Trondheim, Norway, which took place November 26-27th. We were pleased that all invited guests immediately confirmed the invitation and contributed to two thought-provoking days in Trondheim.

We had four inspiring international lectures;

The importance of quantifying evapotranspiration from urban green Infrastructure, by Virginia Stovin, Professor of Green Infrastructure for Stormwater Management, University of Sheffield

Durability, Resilience and Climate Change – Implications for the Design of Building Enclosures, by Senior Research Officer Michael Lacasse, from National Research Council Canada

Integrated Landslide Disaster Risk Managment and Climate change adaptation, by Irasema Alcántara-Ayala, professor of Natural hazards and Risk at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Approaches to climate change adaptation in Lyon - Drivers, pathways and strategies , by Jean-Luc Bertrand-Krajewski, Professor, INSA de Lyon, France, head of DEEP Laboratory (Déchets Eaux Environnement Pollutions - Wastes Water Environment Pollution)

To connect to the local situation the Head of Planning within the municipality of Trondheim, Ragna Fagerli gave an excellent presentation about the Trondheim situation, the strategies and the challenges of the municipality as the body in charge of climate adapted urban development.

To keep a strong focus on the progress, interaction and well-being of the Ph.D. candidates the Klima 2050 Research Training Committee arranges annual Ph.D.-gatherings. The seminar was also a gathering and involved our PhD students – with the traditional PechaKucha-session with the PhD-candidates presenting their research.

A publication collaboration

One of the main objects of the seminar was to identify and discuss the main urgencies concerning climate adaptation in a manner possible to include in a high-ranking journal. A process for a collaboration about an article has started.
